Kauai day #5

Checked out of Lawai Beach Resort. Loaded up on yogurt and pickles. Made the 1 hour 45 minute drive from south shore up to Hanakapiai state park (Na Pali coast trail head). Ate a sandwich at Hauna park where everyone was disturbed by the schizophrenic man yelling crazy obscenities.

Hiked two miles to hanakapiai beach. Then continued another two miles to the hanakapiai falls. Ate lunch that consisted of a sandwich, a massive avocado, pickles, and some French bread. Cute lil feral kitties perused the waterfall area.

Headed back to the car and really enjoyed that 8 mile hike. Tons of guava trees and fruit along the way.

Checked out the shopping center close to the trail head and picked up some fresh pressed juice and gobbled down some chicken and a sampler platter from Chicken in a Barrel.

Drove to Princeville and checked into The Cliffs and headed back out to Queen’s bath. Found a nice lil pond to swim in. Freaked out when huge sets came and filled the pond up… The power of mother nature’s fury is no joke. Several Darwin Award contestants found at Queen’s Bath.

Discovered the beauty of rainbow eucalyptus trees as well as Hawaii’s state bird, the rare Nene. Pizza and a movie back at the house. Passed out early.

Kauai day #4

Breakfast at Living Foods. Ordered a rustic egg sandwich and cinnamon roll and breakfast pizza. Pineapple aqua fresca with vanilla bean was tasty.

Drove as far out on the 50 to Polihale State Park to check out Queens Pond and Barking Sands. A 4×4 would’ve been awesome here.

Lunch at Shrimp station (spicy Thai shrimp) and G’s juice bar. Took a short walk at Waimea recreational pier state park.

Took a lil walk along the hanapepe swinging bridge. Grabbed some souvenirs. Dinner at Josselins tapas bar. Great happy hour.

Kauai day #3

Breakfast at Tortilla Republic. Was craving a big breakfast burrito and they were the only ones open before 8am! Was yummy.

Kayaking along the Wailua River. Stopped and hiked to the Secret Falls. The water was incredibly refreshing. Muddy trails.

Paddled to the farthest point in the Wailua River then came back and explored the Fern Grotto. A couple of tourists tried to steal my GoPro!

Grabbed some shaved ice at Kalapaki Shaved Ice. And then headed for lunch at Deli & Bread Connection (yummy BLT, and amazing breads!).

Toured some of Poipu beaches and Spouting Horn. Ended the evening watching the surfers at Acid Drops and the sunset.

Kauai day #1

Airport dropoff at 5:30am. We learned that most flights (except Delta) to LAX fly outta the commuter terminal. The first leg from SAN to LAX was on a tiny propeller plane. I brought my hiking pack, so of course the stewardess was going to tell me that it’s sticking out from under the seat in front of me. A gentleman in the back if the plane was kind enough to switch backpack storing options so I could keep my exit row seat. I slept most of the way on this LAX to Honolulu flight. One more leg to go to Kauai.

After landing in Honolulu, which looks amazingly beautiful, a native helped me thru the maze to go from the regular terminal to the commuter terminal.
